The reversal comes just days after the Defense Department said it would offer coronavirus vaccines to detainees at Guantánamo Bay, the notorious prison in Cuba, with the rollout possibly coming as soon as next week. The plan was to offer the 40 detainees at the base the first of two doses of the available vaccines “on a voluntary basis.”

Some Florida Democrats have expressed concern about Biden’s standing with Latinos, especially in the Cuban American community. There are also some signs that voter enthusiasm in Trump-friendly parts of Florida is roughly equal to the anti-Trump fervor in Democratic strongholds.

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he opposes President Obama’s goal of shuttering the Guantánamo Bay prison camp in Cuba and would instead fill it with more prisoners... Trump argued it will cost hundreds of millions of dollars — perhaps as much as $650 million — to close the prison located on a U.S. naval base in Cuba.
