The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that the companies were discussing a deal that would value SAS in the range of $15 billion to $20 billion, including any debt... [Broadcom's] chief executive, Hock Tan, said earlier this year the company would look at buybacks and possibly debt repayment, if it didn’t make an acquisition by the end of the fiscal year. That typically ends in late October or early November.

In exchange, AT&T said it will receive $43 billion of cash, debt securities and WarnerMedia’s retention of certain debt... AT&T Finance Chief Pascal Desroches said in an interview Monday that the Discovery deal would allow the telecom company to reach its debt-reduction target a year ahead of schedule.

The measure introduced by Warren and Schumer Thursday calls on the president to take executive action to cancel up to $50,000 in federal student debt for every borrower in the United States, which would wipe out the student debt obligations for more than three-quarters of Americans who owe them... “The president can use the IRS code to ensure federal student loan borrowers won’t have tax liabilities resulting from administrative debt cancellation,” [Schumer] said... [Warren] noted the committee has not held one hearing on what she called “the student debt crisis” since Republicans took over the Senate in 2014.

This year’s deficit is already on track to reach $3.3 trillion — more than double the largest deficit on record, which occurred during the last recession. By next year, the nation’s debt burden will exceed the size of its entire annual economic output... [Veuger] conceded that there is more risk in underfunding state and local governments and potentially hampering the economic recovery than overspending, which would add to the debt imperceptibly.

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) is the only GOP senator expected to vote against the bill, citing concerns on the spending. "At the end of the day, I am not able to cast aside my fiscal concerns and vote for legislation that I believe, based on the information I currently have, could deepen the debt burden on future generations," he said earlier Friday.
